Akwaboah expressed his view on Amakye Dede crowning Kuami Eugene the next King of Highlife in 2019 VGMAs and said that the whole thing was a hoax.
In an interview with Kwaku Manu, the award-winning Highlife singer and songwriter claimed that the legendary Amakye Dede had been forced to crown Kuami Eugene as the closest thing to the Highlife greats of the new generation.
Being the brain behind Becca’s hits like Daa k3 Daa and Sarkodie’s highly praised Mary album, Akwaboah is certainly going down as one of the great Highlife singers and songwriters of his time.
The musician and former signee of Sarkodie’s Sarkcess music pointed out that while Kuami Eugene is doing great on his own, he is not the Highlife King like that gesture of the 2019 VGMAs.
” Kuami Eugene is my son. I played a major role in his career as an artist. I was a voice coach at the MTN Hitmaker show, training him and the likes of Kidi and Kurl Songz. So crowning him as King of the Highlife is not right. Besides, Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, and Kofi B were all involved at the time.
I think Uncle Amakye Dede was compelled to do this because he ‘d certainly not carry the crown from home to do it on stage. Possibly, the organizers had a part to play in all that, “said Akwaboah.
On the other hand, the soulful singer expressed his admiration and gratitude to all those who played a part in his journey.
He pointed out Sarkodie and said that no matter how people felt he had been humiliated and hindered by his former company, he will still be thankful to Sarkodie for his contribution to where he is today.
“I’ve always had a wonderful friendship with Sarkodie. I believe that artists should learn to recognize who has played a role in their careers, no matter how small. God blesses men with a heart of gratitude, “the musician added.
